Heat warning

July 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’m very excited because I’m going up to Soapstone Prairie tomorrow with the always-interesting Dr. Jason LaBelle of CSU’s Anthropology Department and two descendants of William Lindenmeier, who ranched in that area in the early 1900s and after whom the Lindenmeier Archaeological Site is named (he owned the land at the time the discoveries were made).

Would also like to point out that the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for tomorrow, with temperatures possibly hitting 105 degrees. Hottest day of the year, it looks like. Yeah, baby. My line of work ain’t for sissies! ;)

Present & accounted for

June 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just found out yesterday that my colleague Brenda Martin and I are going to be presenting at the National Association for Interpretation’s national workshop in Portland, Oregon this November. We’ve got a 2-hour session and will be presenting on the subject of “Sustaining the Circle of Life Through Oral Tradition.” I was going to use my segment to talk about oral history and documentary film, but with the current direction of my explorations, I think I’m going to be talking quite a bit about digital history and whatnot too. By that time I should have a very workable demonstration website based on our Soapstone oral history project materials.

The last time I presented at a conference was 1990 or 1991, I can’t remember which, in Orlando, at the IEEE Professional Communication confab. I think this one will be a whole lot more fun (because for one thing, I promise you, I ain’t gonna be wearing no suit).

Deeper down the rabbit hole

May 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’m continuing my exploration into the world of Web 2.0 today by posting some Trees, Water & People videos to YouTube, uploading a Powerpoint slideshow to SlideShare (a presentation I did last summer about the Soapstone oral history project, nothing earth-shattering, this is just experimental), and some photos from the Indian Market to Flickr. Please note that all the photos from the Indian Market were taken by my dear bunny Carol! Who rocks! Who supports me and is such a good sport when I ask her to come help out at the Market and she ends up taking pix all day. Really good ones, I might add. So a big shout out to her.

I'm Part White

Here’s my favorite pic that Carol took at the Market. The t-shirt reads “I’m part white, but I can’t prove it.”
